This technical German death metal band ‘Obscura‘ was founded in 2002 by Steffen Kummerer (guitarist/vocalist) and Jonas Baumgartl (drummer). Obscura gained momentum amongst the living of rot when they supported Suffocation on their European tour in 2006 and same year when the band independently released their album ‘Retribution’. Lineup changes have come to dissect the connoisseurs and made it full throttle in 2008.

Obscura’s latest cd ‘Omnivium‘ was released through Relapse Records, by that being said the band will take turn to visit South East Asia as early as September 23 to support it. Steffen Kummerer commented on the upcoming tour “We are honored to get the chance to play in South East Asia for the first time ever”. After their European tour with Hate Eternal, Children of Bodom. The “Omnivium World Tour” finally made a new branch to reach fans in Asia. Unfortunately Manila is not on the list.

Kittie! One of my fave all-female metal groups. I was 11 when I first heard of Kittie. “What I Always Wanted” is the shit I see in my dreams. Personally their first years were their best. Their look, their sound, loved every bit of it. Now? I guess you can say they grew up and decided to look human. I’ve listened to “In The Black” and I was like, wait, this is Kittie?! their sound has definitely improved from their previous albums and I am very pleased, looking forward to their new album coming out this week!

New Kittie album ‘I’ve Failed You‘ coming out Aug 30th via eOne Music. I’m uber stoked and hope my cousin will kidnap me so I can get a copy! Kittie is probably the best all-female metal group I’ve ever had the honor to graze my ears upon (twisted eh?)

With an album title that only hints at the unbridled chaos that has engulfed Dream Theater’s world over the last year, this first album without drummer Mike Portnoy is a pivotal moment in the band’s twenty six year history. With an expectant fan base, Dream Theater quite simply had to deliver a “classic” Dream Theater album. If they moved too far away from their blueprint, or stacked the album with “filler”, they would be immediately be castigated for letting Portnoy leave in the way he did and for rebuffing his attempt to rejoin the band a few weeks later. The central reason Portnoy cited for his departure was that he felt that the band had become stale and that they needed an extended break to recharge. Put simply, he felt that if the band were to survive, something needed to change in order for them to create truly special albums once again. The ultimate irony here is that by leaving, Portnoy has provided that spark, and indeed Dream Theater have returned with a fresh and frankly stunning album in A Dramatic Turn Of Events.

New York’s Every Time I Die will be finally coming to Manila. After several months of harassment via Twitter and Facebook, the band will give us a taste of their distinctive brand of aggressive music right here! The not your typical hardcore act slated to share the stage with Massachusetts’ long running juggernauts, The Acacia Strain – who by the way promised to bring all sorts of brutal destruction. Both from the East Coast so hitting 2 birds with one stone did turn out pretty smoothly.

Here out Keith Buckley and Vincent Bennett

Well, not really.

More like Undead.

And to be more specific, he’s turned into a zombie!

Scott Ian will do a cameo as a member of the non-living in the second season of the AMC hit series The Walking Dead. Ian describes the whole project as a once-in-a-lifetime-slash-major-bucket-list moment. And who wouldn’t be honored to sit through 90 minutes of make-up for a few seconds of TV zombie glory?

Lucky bastard.

For a full account of his experience, check out his website. And don’t forget to view the images. Sickenin’ prosthetics/ make-up happening there!

The Walking Dead is based from the cult graphic novel series of the same name and tells the story of survivors in an apocalyptic America overran by zombies. And as if being chased by a horde of animated cannibalistic corpses isn’t enough, the remaining humans have to contend with their interpersonal conflicts – only to slowly realize that the living are just as dangerous as the mindless walkers. It doesn’t get any effed-up than that.

The Walking Dead Season 2 premieres on October 16, 2011.

Just in case you missed the first wave of the zombie invasion, get The Walking Dead Season 1 here.

When I hear about Mastodon the first thing that comes to mind is blank. There is no exact definition but the idea is perplex. Mastodon created tooth and breast in them whatever that is – it made true to their name. I guess I was strongly influenced by their track Oblivion, I can listen to that a hundred times in single sitting whilst on the road or killing time in the corner. I expect more and hope to find kindred in the upcoming 5th studio album ‘The Hunter’, releasing it via Reprise Records, 3rd CD to date since the band signed up with them but first cd brainstormed with producer Mike Elizondo and Roadrunner Records will help them distribute the work outside North America. Brent Hinds told MTV Germany that the reason behind the name of the album ‘The Hunter’ is to honor his brother who died while hunting during the making of the album. The new record will hit the stores on September 27, 2011. The cool thing about is each limited edition package includes a CD/DVD housed in a digipack with an exclusive alternative artwork cover, a 20′ x 30′ lenticular poster featuring the album cover of the standard CD plus there’s more you also get the thing they call Augmented Reality 3D to make it work you just have to use a camera on your computer and it will turn your face into ‘The Hunter’ sculpture from the album cover.

Screeching…The virus has completely devastated over 150 of the world’s major regions and is spreading rapidly. At this point in time we know of only one method of killing the creatures: destroy the brain. Beyond the guard of any loved ones who may have recently been in any sort of contact could be infected. And if you find yourself out in a threatening position, please do not hesitate to act. Again, this is not a test. This is not a joke. We as a species are overwhelmed. We are outnumbered!

At first I thought I was listening to a soundtrack of The Walking Dead which by the way will have it’s 2nd season to premiere in October. Somehow I share the same thoughts with the band about zombies.  Dead Throne is the title of the new album, set to be launched on the 13th of September through Ferret Music. A come back release after 2009′s With Roots Above And Branches Below. Front man Mike Hranica blurted out “The new record contains the heavy aspects of the ‘Zombie EP,’ meshed with the melody of the full lengths. ‘Born to Lose’ captures some of those elements and serves as a comprehensive preview to the album. By all means, I’d call it our most emotional, well-written album to date. Sources predicted that the new cd will have a different kind of kick. A decent editorial review spotted Dead Throne signals a more evolved, more progressive The Devil Wears Prada and contains more than a dozen cutting-edge, razor-sharp, straight-ahead heavy metal tracks that are utterly brilliant not only in their composition, but also in their flawless delivery.

Track listing:

01. Dead Throne
02. Untidaled
03. Mammoth
04. Vengeance
05. R.I.T.
06. My Questions
07. Kansas
08. Born To Lose (Stream via Myspace)
09. Forever Decay
10. Chicago
11. Constance
12. Pretenders
13. Hold Fast

It’s been raining here in the past weeks is that the reason why Alexisonfire call it quits? Water can douse fire no need of rocket science in any sort to figure that out… maybe they got burnt really bad and turned into ashes? This band has been making music for a decade and sad to say that they can no longer continue. I know friends who are listeners not really labeling them followers. For the record I can only name a couple of their songs, I don’t like nor hate them but their songs are quite easy to digest. You have to admit Alexisonfire have it – crossing the thin line of rock and metal bridge, purists wont buy it. Anyway…

In a statement posted on the band’s official website, lead vocalist George Pettit announced the decision after two members quit – guitarists Dallas Green and Wade MacNeil. The band is planning a final tour in their native Canada and “several special releases” to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Announcing the break-up,

Pettit revealed his disappointment at the outcome, commenting: Was the break up amicable? Not really. Was it necessary? Probably. Regardless, the members of this band are my family and I wish them nothing but good fortune. He said that the future for himself and other members Chris Steele (bass) and Jordan Hastings (drums) was “largely unwritten“, adding: ”Replacing one guitar player/singer/writer was something we thought was possible, but replacing two would run the serious legacy of what we achieved.”
